Simply stated, Now On View celebrates and showcases the artists of Society6 and their work. Get to know them—and then get lost in their gallery.

As a way of introducing yourself, who are you and what do you do?

I’m Alice, an illustrator and surface pattern designer. Currently, I mostly work on children’s book projects and licensing my art for products – children’s book illustration is my main passion. As a digital artist I enjoy playing with color and pattern in my work and with a background in textile design, patterns are very large part of what I do. My mother was a textile designer so her influence really rubbed off on me.

Current city: London, UK and Chalons-en-Champagne, France

How did you make these?

I create most of my work using Adobe Illustrator. Occasionally, I might use Procreate as I like the quality of textures and brushes there.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I draw my inspiration from nature and over-arching themes like space, jungle, nautical, etc. If I focus on a big theme, I can create different designs based on it. Sometimes, I also like looking to the past to inspire new pieces. Visiting museums and looking at books has always been part of my research for projects and is ideal when I’m stuck for inspiration. My favorite museum in London is the V&A and I’m really looking forward to visiting when it reopens. It’s filled with ancient art, modern art and design objects from around the world. I’m inspired every time I go.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?

As I get older, I’m learning that it’s important to loosen up and be playful both in my everyday self and in my work. My daughter has taught me that. Sometimes things don’t go to plan or there are days where you get nothing done but I have learned to put them to one side, accept them and move on without berating myself too much. Being creative is an emotional rollercoaster and artists often put far too much pressure on themselves. Taking a step back to breathe is a great gift we can all give ourselves.
