Simply stated, Now On View celebrates and showcases the artists of Society6 and their work. Get to know them—and then get lost in their gallery.
Let’s start by introducing yourself…
I’m Haley Tippmann, an American illustrator living in Koblenz, Germany.
What’s your process?
I use an iPad Pro and the Procreate app. Almost all of my illustrations are drawn digitally. I begin by going out and taking some reference pictures, or I look through my phone photo album for inspiration. Once I’ve found a subject to draw, I start sketching directly with the iPad, then color and outline the final.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I get inspiration from the people and places around me. For instance, I like to go to a cafe and sketch people.
If I know a pose I need for an illustration, I sometimes have my husband pose for me. I also try to take pictures of color schemes I like for later use. This could be a bush that is turning yellow or an old magazine cover.
What do people typically say about your work?
People say they like the colors and style. I really like using natural colors and, every once in a while, I use a bright orange here and there.
What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?
The most important thing I’ve learned is to draw every day and don’t look at what others are doing. It’s best to draw what you like and put out what is enjoyable for you, and other people will see and feel that in your work.
How can people reach you?
