Who are you and what do you do? My name’s Bria! I’m a visual designer and illustrator from the great state of Texas, currently working in advertising. When I’m not in front of a computer or my iPad, I like to cook up new vegetarian recipes and read.
Current city: Brooklyn, New York
Clients: The Truth Campaign, The Suffers, Olphactory Candles
How did you make these? I use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and recently started using Procreate. But, Illustrator is definitely my favorite for my style of illustration.
Why did you make these? When I started illustrating, I wanted to create the kind of art that I wanted to hang on my walls: really pretty pictures of women–especially Black women–where strength can exist in a kind of softness. Show the moments when we’re able to take a pause, or just exist happily. Now in addition to that, I’m drawing inspiration from the things I see and wish to see in the world.
What do people typically say about your work? I’ve heard my work described as dream-like, minimalist, elegant, empowering, even relaxed. People tend to notice how I like to work with color, and lot’s of different colors across my pieces. But, my absolute favorite thing is when people see themselves in my work.
