The first artist playlist of 2021 is here! Each month we’re asking one music-loving artist to create a custom playlist of their favorite songs. This month, Alyissa J curated a chill, lyrical playlist to help you sit back, unwind and create. Take a listen and check out our chat below!

Introduce yourself and your work!

Hi, I’m Alyissa of Alyissa Letters. I’m a lettering artist, designer and illustrator who creates empowering artwork with a side-eye of feminism.

Could you tell us about the playlist you put together?

It’s like a party in a secret garden with my closest friends. It’s somber, chill and full of honest lyrics—but also catchy and leaves room for plenty of dance breaks.

What song or artist do you have on repeat recently?

Phoebe Bridgers helped me survive 2020 and I think she will come in clutch in 2021 as well.

If your art were a music genre, what would it be?

Indie Pop

How do you describe your musical taste?

I mostly want to chill, but I also want to dance. It’s a constant juggle between the two.

What part does music play in your creative process?

It allows me to unwind, escape or focus. I try to have a playlist for every scenario I may need when creating.
