This Week in Photography
Eye-pleasing arrangements and color gradients are trademarks of carolinesouth’s photographic explorations. Based in West Sussex, United Kingdom, Caroline combs local beaches for found objects and little forgotten treasures to use in her images. She spends days fine tuning the arrangements, searching for new elements and pondering which direction the piece will go.
Trending
Watermelon
It’s the middle of summer, and we’re seeing a lot of delicious dedications to a favorite fruit: watermelon. Artists are drawn to the watermelon’s aesthetic in some very interesting ways, and to be honest, it really never gets old.
Color Story
Periwinkle Palette
Soft accents and cool hues come together in this gentle, trending color that very well could fit into any occasion. Periwinkle is most known in the floral world, but all who view it benefit from the soothing blend of blue and violet. Just as the plant itself is an evergreen, periwinkle pairs well with practically every product, room or artistic endeavor.
Artist Spotlight
Ruben Ireland | London, United Kingdom
The works of Ruben Ireland are actually quite exquisite and dramatic even though at first glance they might appear refined or minimal. Ruben creates detailed, stark black and white studies that embody equal amounts of strength. These images, which are fantastical and otherworldly at times, almost strive to beckon some distant siren song.
About the Curator
Hello there art friends. My name is Nathan Spoor, Head of Curation at Society6. I have over 25 years of experience as an art curator for galleries and museums, I’ve written for several prominent art publications and published three books on contemporary art. I’m also a painter and a member of one of the first groups of artists that took the plunge and joined Society6 in 2009. Since 2015, I’ve been the full-time Society6 curator, continuously thrilled to be on the forefront of surfacing so much amazing work, sharing rising artists, trending themes and color stories that spark inspiration and fuel the imagination.
Each day I dive into a sea of new art uploads on Society6, surrounded by a virtual treasure trove of artists from around the world sharing their original works paintings, photographs, illustrations and designs.
