Simply stated, Now On View celebrates and showcases the artists of Society6 and their work. Get to know them—and then get lost in their gallery.
As a way of introducing yourself, who are you and what do you do?
Hey there! I’m Alex Gold, a California-based graphic designer and illustrator. I spend my days creating graphics and art, drinking lots of coffee and petting every dog I see.
Current city: San Francisco, CA
How did you make these?
All of my illustrations are created digitally using my iPad and the Procreate App.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I really love traditional print techniques and art from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Artists from the turn of the century were beginning to push the boundaries of abstraction, and I’m always inspired by poster art, impressionism, and post-impressionism from that era. I also stay creative by constantly listening to music—I love translating sounds and abstract moods into visual art.
What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?
Not all art has to be shared, so don’t feel pressured to make something “perfect” or “mind-blowing.” Draw silly sketches and experiment with different styles, media and subject matter. Stay loose and enjoy the process of creating!
