Holiday 2020 looks a little bit different this year.

The holiday season is typically the busiest time for shoppers on Society6 and presents exciting opportunities for increased traffic and sales. This year, more customers are shopping online, and they’re starting earlier to make sure their gifts arrive in time. With this in mind, we want to give you our top five tips for ensuring holiday success this season. Take a peek below and continue to follow along throughout the next two months for more updates and advice!

1. Start Early

If there’s only one thing to know about this holiday season it’s this: customers are going to be shopping way earlier than usual. For some context, we typically start promoting our holiday collections around November 1st and this year, they’re already up and running. Don’t sleep on these early shoppers—get your shops ready now by uploading new designs and enabling your bestsellers on as many products as possible. Make a plan for how you’ll promote yourself through the rest of October, November and December.

2. Share, Share, Share

Social media is the perfect way to directly reach people who are already interested in your art. Many of you are already familiar with social best practices, but in case you need a refresher—brush up here. Our research shows that our customers are really looking to social for inspiration, so get creative! Show your artwork and designs in new, fresh ways that really catch people’s attention and get them excited to shop. Oh, and make it even easier to turn your fans into customers by adding your Society6 shop link to all your social bios!

Bonus! Don’t forget to take advantage of the Affiliate Program to make 10% more on the sales you refer. Customer intent to purchase is high during the holiday season. Make sure you use your affiliate link in your social media bio, on your website, and in emails you send to get the credit for the sales you refer directly! Learn more or signup for the Affiliate Program here.

3. Promote our Promotions

This time of year, customers are always seeking out the best deals and with the holiday season being longer than ever this year we’re offering strong discounts throughout all of October and November, instead of just during Cyber Week. Just another reason to get ahead and make a marketing plan for yourself this season!

Reminder: Even during our largest promos of the year, you still earn 10% on the original price of almost all products. For products where you can set your own price, Art Prints, Framed Prints and Canvas prints, make sure you’re happy with the markups you’ve set. Learn more about setting markups here.

4. Focus on Giftable Items

These are the most popular during this time of year. Make sure you’ve enabled your best-selling designs on these products and promote them to your customers on social media.

  • Throw blankets
  • Wrapping Paper
  • Stationery Cards
  • Yoga Mats
  • Hoodies
  • Coffee Mugs / Travel Mugs
  • Phone Cases (iPhone & Android + new tech accessories launching soon!)
  • Art Prints
  • Posters
  • Tapestries
  • Welcome Mats
  • Hand / Bath Towels
  • Water Bottles (coming soon!)

5. Consider the Calendar

We’ve talked about how holiday this year will start earlier and be accompanied by heavier promotions throughout the months, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t also keep the calendar in mind. Think about what your customers might be looking for at different times of the month—for example, October is perfect to promote holiday home decor while November will still be the strongest month for traditional gifting. And as always, we’ll keep you in the loop with shipping deadlines as we get closer to December so that you can know which last-minute gifts to start sharing about. When in doubt, look to us and echo what we’ve got going on on-site!
