The November artist playlist is here! Each month we’re asking one music-loving artist to create a custom playlist of their favorite songs. This month, artist and illustrator Aley Wild put together a playlist to help you chill out and escape reality. Take a listen and check out our chat below!

Introduce yourself and your work!

Aley Wild here, Sydney-based illustrator and graphic artist. I make playful, neo-primitive art that explores positivity, feminine power and connection to nature.

Could you tell us about the playlist you put together?

All aboard The Escape Pod, cosmic dancers. Deploy to escape from reality. Sometimes funky, sometimes mellow, these otherworldly songs will transport you directly to the oasis.

What song or artist do you have on repeat recently?

A lot about 2020 makes zero sense, so I’ve been gravitating towards the fantastical. My favorite song to dance to right now is Dorothy by Polo & Pan (2nd on the playlist). That stanky cowbell really gets me.

If your art were a music genre, what would it be?

Downtempo dance remix of a 60’s folk song.

How do you describe your musical taste?

I’m super curious, so I listen to a lot of genres from different cultures and times. Life’s a buffet 🙂  Across genres I’m drawn to rich, layered soundscapes that wash over me completely and carry me down the vibe river.

What part does music play in your creative process?

I’m inspired by artists who turn unconventional sounds into magical, melodic music. I respect the unexpected and try to foster that energy in my art. Also, I listen to music while I work and take regular dance breaks. The shapes I throw my body into when I flail around are the basis for the big, bendy poses of the womxn in my work.
