Decorating with your roommates should be easy. The awesome and endlessly positive Shahd Batal breaks down how to effectively collab on small, shared living spaces like dorms or small living rooms.

The decorating process can sometimes seem intimidating. There’s so many decisions to make. Throw a roommate into the mix and it seems like quite the challenge. But as Shahd shares in the video, the process is surprisingly easy and actually a lot of fun.

STEP 1: FIND INSPO

Put together mood boards and collections of your favorite things. You’ll start to identify a trend among everything. You’ll bring these together in the next step.

STEP 2: AGREE ON A VIBE/THEME

You might have different styles, but you can find the middle ground by picking key pieces you both like, and building around that.

STEP 3: WHAT DECOR DO YOU NEED?

This is going to be unique to your space. It could be as simple as Art Prints or a Wall Tapestry, but if you’re furnishing a couch or your beds, you might want something like throw pillows, blankets, duvet covers, etc.

STEP 4: CREATE & SHARE YOUR COLLECTIONS

Now that you’ve picked out a bunch of stuff you like, share it with each other. You can build a new collection on Society6 just to see how things look side by side.

STEP 5: DECORATE

You’ve ordered everything you need and it finally arrived at your doorstep. Now comes the fun part! Build a shelf, fluff some pillows, hang some artwork and revel in the work you’ve done with your roommate.
