All hail festival season. It begins.
Starting mid-March, South by Southwest kicks off several months of major music festivals across the US. We were at SXSW last year, and obviously had a blast, but we hadn’t launched our Creative Brief series until several months later. This year we want you to be able to get in on the action sooner. So, below are a series of suggestions to help you get ready for this yearly cycle of festival-goers flocking to Society6 for unique gear.
Design recommendations for festival season
With major music festivals like Coachella, Ultra and SXSW bringing music lovers together from all over the world, there’s a general theme to the fashion: bright, bold and comfortable. Festival goers flock to Society6 right around now, and for the next few months, searching for something no one else will have. Here’s some recommendations from a design perspective that should help you fill out your shop for festival goers.
Suggested themes:
- Brushed letters & typography
- Anything summer vibes
- Retro, 80’s, 90’s
- Optimism
- Crystals
- Stripes
- Ultra violet
- Pastels
Remember to use relevant titles, tags and descriptions. Check out this article on How to Get Found In Search to make sure you’re maximizing your opportunity to be discovered by customers and our own curation team.
Product recommendations for festival season
Remember that festival goers are searching for items well-beyond apparel. They’re camping, cramming into RV’s and sneaking way too many people into into their overpriced vacation rentals. That means they need stuff to carry more stuff. They need things to sit on. They need things that block the shade. With that in mind, here’s our apparel suggestions as well as everything else we expect to see a bump in sale.
Products to focus on for Festival Season:
- Apparel: T-Shirts, Tank Tops, Leggings, Biker Tanks
- Carrying stuff: Tote Bags, Backpacks, Carry All Pouches, Duffle Bags
- Sitting: Wall Tapestries, Beach Towels, Floor Pillows, Throw Blankets

Learn to digitize your hand-made lettering
Keeping in theme with festival season, whimsical and optimistic lettering is very popular. It’s popular in general, but especially among festival shoppers.
S6 Artist, Leah Flores put together a real easy step-by-step tutorial on how to convert your hand-made brushed letters into a vectorized file. This is important because it means your products will print with super clean lines (hello, repeat customers). Follow the link to get all the details.
