Who are you and what do you do? My name is Bodil Jane and I’m an illustrator from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I’ve been working as a freelance illustrator since 2014. I’m spending my days working in my mezzanine studio, a 10 minute bike ride from my home. I love doing illustrations for magazines, homeware products, fashion brands and packaging. I also run a small online shop where I sell prints, accessories and homeware.
Current city: Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Clients: Amazon Fashion, Caran d’Ache, Chronicle Books, Flow Magazine, Frankie Magazine, Lush, Marks & Spencer, Penguin Random House, Playboy, Revlon Professional, The New Yorker, Tommy Hilfiger, UNICEF, Van Gogh Museum
How did you make these? I work with different “mixed media” techniques. Sometimes I use water colors and ink, but I also like working more digitally with Photoshop or Procreate on the iPad. Most of my illustrations are a mix of analogue and digital techniques. I was raised in a very creative family. Finding inspiration and picking colors for an illustration comes very naturally to me.
Why did you make these? Most of these illustrations are made for client projects. I don’t have that much time left to spend on personal work. When I do have time to make something personal, I like to upload it on my Society6 too. I love working with themes like women, feminism, interiors and nature. It makes me very happy when people are interested in purchasing my illustrations to make their homes look more beautiful. I wish I could look into all the homes where my work is hanging up the wall!
What do people typically say about your work? Colorful, empowering, quirky and cute!
