Simply stated, Now On View celebrates and showcases the artists of Society6 and their work. Get to know them—and then get lost in their gallery.
As a way of introducing yourself, who are you and what do you do?
My name’s Pilgrim (yes, really). By day, I’m a mild mannered children’s book specialist at an indie bookstore; by night, I channel the aesthetic spirits of 1968-1975 to create vibrant patterns and prints. For the past ten years I’ve produced my own line of paper goods, published a children’s book, worked on fabric and textile designs, homewares, animated GIFs and, just recently, a card game!
Current city:
Melbourne, Australia
How did you make these?
I start with a quick sketch and then work the rest out in Adobe Illustrator, where I can freely chop and change elements and colors. It makes seamless repeat patterns a piece of cake!
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I love music and curating playlists. Often, I’ll make a playlist for a very specific mood that will then trigger an idea for a design. A lot of my designs are just purely things I want to see existing in the world, and I’m never short on ideas. But, the hardest part is maintaining my attention span!
What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?
Comparison is the thief of joy, and if I’m not happy with a design then it’s time to take a step back and do something else for a while.
