Who are you and what do you do? I’m Sarah Matuszewski, a multidisciplinary illustrator and visual artist from Germany.
Current city: Ludwigsburg
Clients: I´m working for international clients, mostly for magazines or advertising agencies in different mediums as well as print, animation, art. Spiegel, Arte Magazine, De Volkskrant, Coca-Cola, adidas…
How did you make these? I need to spend some time thinking and sketching first. I somehow need to see a rough picture in my head before I can start. In the past, I often started analogically with a pencil on paper before I finished everything digitally. But since I discovered the iPad Pro, I start working digitally from the beginning. When I’m in the middle of the drawing process I’m always surprised by the ideas and details which are coming up to my mind, that I haven’t thought about at the beginning. Then the work feels some kind of easy and intuitive for me.
Why did you make these? Drawing and creating stuff is kind of a natural thing for me. Since I can imagine, it is an important medium for me to express myself and to have a source of personal freedom. I’m always curious about what I can do or create.
What do people typically say about your work? That it’s playful and fun.
