Simply stated, Now On View celebrates and showcases the artists of Society6 and their work. Get to know them—and then get lost in their gallery.

Could you introduce yourself?

I’m Aaron Ricketts, a photographer, visual artist, and founder/creative director for The Ricketts Company, whose work resides at the intersection of art and entertainment.

Current city:

Based but not limited to Philadelphia.

What’s your process?

My process now starts with research. This is to understand what my goal for a project is, what my approach will be, and who or what I think I’ll need to accomplish my goal. From there I schedule dates that I’ll work on the project and coordinate with whoever I’ll have involved. Next, I’ll shoot, review what I’ve shot, and if need be, re-shoot. Finally, I’ll move on to post-production and use whichever software is needed. For example, photoshop, lightroom, or after effects.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I draw a lot of inspiration from cartoons or movies but really anything that has surrealist or conceptual elements. Some artists of the past who currently inspire me are, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Rene Magritte, and Hiro.

What do people typically say about your work?

I get a lot of different responses when it comes to my work. Some really enjoy the lighting, some enjoy the concepts I come up with. However, one common theme I hear about my work is my ability to think outside the box.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten as an artist or the most important thing you’ve learned?

The most important thing I’ve learned up until now is that, no matter what you do, just keep doing it. Regardless if what you make is good or bad, one has to keep at it to continue to grow. There’s no such thing as perfect, but practice helps you get the closest to it. Also, believe in yourself no matter what.
