When you’re low on space—and let’s be honest, cash—finding pieces that are multi-purpose is game-changing. Enter wall tapestries: you probably think of them foremost as a hippie wall-hanging, but trust us when we say there are actually a slew of ways you can use these decorative fabrics to seriously upgrade your dorm room.

First of all, it’s important to note that modern takes on the tapestry do exists: if mandalas and tie dye aren’t your thing, pick a graphic pattern, a cool floral motif, a quote that hypes you up, or an art print or illustration so you can use it like your own really affordable masterpiece. In addition to the obvious uses (covering up ugly cinder block walls, for example), you can toss your tapestry over your bed for a makeshift bedspread, a table, chair, or other piece of furniture that needs a little extra love. You can also use it as a room divider—for those of you who crave a space to call totally your own. And there’s no easier, most cost-effective window dressing than a good ‘ol tapestry. If you’ve got a curtain rod already, just fold the top of the fabric over about two inches and use hemming tape and an iron to create a little sleeve to slide it through. If you don’t—double stick tape works in a jiffy. Hey, we’re not here to judge. In fact, let us help you get started by shopping our Dorm Room Tapestries Collection here.
