You’re stranded on deserted island with an iPod and one song. What’s your summer kickoff song? Are you more Pocketful of Sunshine or Sunshine On My Shoulders? Or maybe Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine?
Clearly, modern music is not my strong suit. Whatever your summer vibe, June 21 officially kicks off the sunshine months with the summer solstice. Ironically, in sunny SoCal, we’ll be celebrating our yearly bout with cloud cover, which we’ve deemed “June Gloom”. But I digress because that never really keeps us from the beaches anyway. And talking all this summer talk, I should probably turn our attention to all the summer-ready products we just launched as part of our recently launched Outdoor Collection. Read on!
Some quick things worth noting:
– Our Outdoor Collection just launched! Get details or enable in your shop.
– We also recently published our Community Guidelines. It’s a set of ground rules and principals to help you better understand how we intend to protect and grow our global community of artists and creatives.
Summer 2019 Design Trends Any Artist, Illustrator or Designer Can Embrace
We’ll certainly get into what customers are purchasing, but it’s not just about the visuals. Motivations driving creative work is worth attention. We break out what “empowering” means as a creative motivator and why encouragement only scratches the surface. Then, as promised, we get into everything from jungle cats, abstract minimalism and a few other design trends worth noting for this summer. Read more!
Occasions to promote in June:
Father’s Day falls right in the middle of the month on June 16th. The rest are just fun excuses to promote yourself. You can either use artwork you’ve already created that feels relevant or use the following as a creative prompt to make something new. Either way, have fun with it and keep in your style.
- June 1: National Go Barefoot Days
- June 3: National Leave the Office Early Day (can I get an amen?)
- June 7: National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
- June 8: National Rosé Day
- June 16: Father’s Day
- June 21: Summer Solstice (officially summer) – lots of holidays today
- June 27: National Sunglasses Day
- June 29: National Camera Day

How to Build a Seasonal Marketing Calendar for Your Art Business
Sorry for the repeat if you remember this post from last month’s brief! With summer being a major focus for us starting in June, we wanted to make sure you had the chance to get ahead of the ball with us. A good marketing calendar doesn’t have to be complex. It’s really just a series of minor goals to help you achieve your major ones. Even simple tasks are worth putting a calendar so you know you’re making progress!
Marketing Guide for Wallpaper (+ Wall Murals)
With wallpaper sales picking up as I write this, I figured it was worth bringing the marketing guide back up. Since this is a pricier product, volume of sales won’t be as high as other products. So, if you’ve never sold wallpaper or a wall mural, instead of seeing wallpaper as your money maker, consider it an excuse to establish your process for creating repeating patterns. If you can dial in repeating patterns (regardless of your style), you’ll be able to apply your artwork to just about any Society6 product with limited effort. Also, the post has a handful of helpful info.
