We’re high-fiving parents and stay-at-homers this month.

Our focus, specifically, for the month of April is nesting. We’re looking at creative spaces, customer dwellings and kids. We have some articles coming up with a focus on children’s art and advice from artists on how they navigated creating with their first born. And since spring has sprung, it’s a good time to clean up your shop and address sprucing up your creative space. Sometimes it’s those small adjustments that make a big difference.

We’ll go through several tips, tricks and prompts to help you make the most of April. The following gives you a quick sense of what we’ll be focusing on in the upcoming month as well.

Some quick things worth noting:

  • Festival season has kicked off
  • Fanny packs launched recently
  • Refresh your shop, but read our surface design guide first
  • Read how Monika Strigel built a successful art business while stuck in her creative “nest”

Trends with Benefits is a quarterly series where we highlight creative themes that our merchandising team has been keeping an eye on. We surround ourselves with art every day, so we’ve gotten pretty good at identifying trends as they pop up. Sometimes we’re even able to predict trends based on sales data and the artwork artists are uploading. We don’t like telling any artist what to create, but if you work better with creative prompts, these are themes that our merchandising team recommends considering for the next few months.

Trending themes:

  • Dark florals with pops of color
  • Retro rainbow
  • Shades of purple
  • The 90’s/memphis style
  • Embracing the imperfect

Artist Education

The Art of Being Self-Taught: How I Found Success with These 4 Simple Understandings

“When you have nothing, you have everything. I had no idea how to make a living with my creative thoughts or ideas. Coming from the banking industry, I was unsure whether my skills would be sufficient enough to enter the creative “world”, which was filled with successful and highly educated artists.” -Monika Strigel

Surface Design Guide: 7 Things to Know Before Creating Products

There’s two main approaches to surface design. (1) Create art and figure out how to make it look good on a product’s surface. This is at the core of Society6. (2) Create designs for specific products, which is an evolution of #1. This is often the life of a pattern designer. Whichever is your approach, this article is relevant to you.

Marketing Guide for Wall Murals & Wallpaper

With peel and stick wall murals up to 12 feet wide and 8 feet tall, and no limit on purchasable wallpaper panels, any homeowner, apartment renter or DIYer can give their space a big treatment with limited effort. Society6 wall murals and wallpaper can be put up in two hours or less (assuming you’re not filling a reeeally wide wall). Since these products are non-permanent, they’re great for renters. They’re great for bedrooms, bathrooms, office spaces, college dorms/apts, entryways, boutique retail shops and more.

This Just In

Here’s where we showcase the latest and greatest products, updates, announcements so you don’t miss a beat.

Just Launched: Fanny Packs

Fanny packs, along with the 90’s, are back in full sling and it’s not just their cool factor–they’re also practical. They offer the ultimate in convenience when it comes to keeping the basics safe for a night out, traveling or making the most of a multi-day, festival bender. This might be obvious, but fanny packs are commonly used to carry keys, cash, credit cards, phone, chapstick, makeup and license without the bulk of a backpack. The belt length and width of Society6 fanny packs also allows it to be comfortably slung over a shoulder or around the waist.

Coming Soon: Mini Art Prints & Framed Mini Art Prints

At just 4” wide, this is desktop art at it’s finest. They’re also great for hanging on those slivers of empty wall that you could never quite figure out how to decorate. We’ll share more details in the coming weeks!
